When do we share leadership?

How can you tell whether shared leadership is the right fit for a team, and when? When researcher Danni Wang et al. approached this question in a meta-analysis in 2014, it was found that shared leadership creates an effective team, particularly when the leadership style in the team is characterized by development and change. The researchers also found that shared team leadership is preferable when the work tasks are complex rather than routine.
