The team’s three most important questions

In a world marked by rapid change it is important for many teams that they get to be autonomous, i.e. that the team has the authority to make its own decisions. This puts the team in a better position to adapt and manage demanding circumstances – at least according to a 2016 study led by Erik Gonzalez-Mulé at Indiana University. The study looked at three key aspects of 110 autonomous teams: Is the team familiar with the organization’s goals? Are the team’s goals in line with those of the organization? Does the team receive feedback on its achievements? In the cases where the team did this, their performance also increased significantly.
