Make everyone employee of the month

Employee of the month may sound like a good idea, but there is one major drawback: we risk rewarding a single person who has done well, rather than everyone who has achieved something. The same problem can occur when we want to be a decent colleague and give plenty of positive feedback: we give more feedback to one person and exclude someone else. Organizational researchers Fred Luthans and Alex Stajkovic reviewed 19 studies about positive attention at work. They saw a clear pattern: positive feedback increases performance – by 15 percent! Make sure that everyone is employee of the month and everyone will achieve more.
