Why is it good to do the exercise?

Who should do what? According to researchers Becky Beard, Eduardo Salas, and Scott Tanenbaum, one of the most effective things we can do to strengthen a team is to clarify roles. A role can be defined as a set of behaviors or activities that a person feels compelled to carry out and is expected to carry out, by both themselves and others. Simply put: a role makes it clear who should do what. When roles are unclear or in conflict, there’s a risk that we’ll become dissatisfied and feel bad at work. But when roles are clear, they can help us prioritize correctly and perform better. We have a lot to learn from what has worked in the past; the clearer we can see backwards, the better we can look forward.
