Compete your way to an efficient meeting

When you are part of a team, you can suggest this exercise to the team.

Why is it good to do the exercise?

Do you also dream of meetings that start and end on time, with discussions that stay on topic? That dream may be closer than you think. The first step toward a new meeting culture is to define what a good meeting looks like. The next step is to notice and encourage one another when you act as agreed. And if someone slips, a friendly reminder helps. The Good Behavior Game is a successful method for creating calm in classrooms. It includes all these elements in a clever setup. Students define which behaviours they want to see more of and less of during a lesson. The desirable behaviours are called pax and the undesirable ones bliim. When we define pax and bliim in advance, it becomes easier to give each other a thumbs up. A correction also feels less threatening when paired with a kind-sounding made-up word. To make it more fun, there’s also a competitive element where the whole group earns a reward if everyone helps the group behave as well as possible. Want to try it?
