Happiness now

What makes you feel something? Being there in the moment, of course – but not just that. The human brain differs from animals’ brains, because we can experience both the past and the future. We can re-experience a memory by thinking about it, and feel the feelings that we felt at the time. Thinking about future events can also trigger feelings, despite them not having happened yet. In the brain, everything you focus on happens in the present tense, whether it is a presentation you will give next week and which is making you nervous, or an event that irritates you even though it happened several weeks ago. Every time you think about what happened, your body experiences it as if it is happening again, here and now. This is why you can feel physically nervous about a work presentation, despite being at home in your kitchen drinking coffee. But you can turn this to your advantage! When you recall a happy situation, you can re-experience the good times right now!
